Art by Joel Clark — Contemporary British Artwork, Now on Mugs

A new collection bringing Joel Clark’s bold contemporary artwork onto hand-pressed everyday drinkware.

Some collections happen because they make commercial sense.

Others happen because you genuinely love the artwork and want to see it exist in a completely different way.

This one was definitely the second.

After seeing how incredibly popular Joel Clark’s automotive artwork had become on mugs, I started wondering whether some of his wider artwork could work just as beautifully on drinkware too.

Thankfully, the answer turned out to be yes.

Artwork That Feels Different

What immediately stands out about Joel’s work is that it doesn’t really feel like traditional “mug artwork”.

It feels modern, graphic and full of atmosphere.

Some pieces are cheerful and bright, full of colour and summer energy. Others are moodier, quieter and more reflective.

And that contrast is exactly what makes the collection so interesting.

Personally, I absolutely love the beach scenes — they feel perfect for summer mornings and lazy cups of tea in the garden.

But equally, some of the urban and people-focused pieces feel completely different again in the best possible way.

There’s a real sense of movement and observation in them.

Joel’s Unique Artistic Style

Joel Clark is a British artist working in the unusual medium of hand-cut vinyl artwork.

After first learning the process during a summer job with a sign company based at Silverstone Circuit, he went on to study art before spending 16 years working as an advertising creative producing TV and poster campaigns.

Eventually following his ambition of becoming a full-time artist, Joel developed a style heavily shaped by the vinyl-cutting process itself — breaking subjects down into coloured shapes before painstakingly hand-cutting and layering them together almost like a collage or jigsaw.

The result is artwork that feels bold and instantly recognisable while still carrying huge amounts of atmosphere and detail.

From Walls to Everyday Use

One of the things we’ve always loved at Sipfull of Design is the idea that everyday objects should still feel enjoyable to use.

That’s why Joel’s work felt like such a natural fit for mugs.

Instead of artwork sitting hidden away or only existing as prints on walls, these become pieces you actually interact with every day.

A morning coffee. An afternoon tea. Something sitting on a desk or kitchen table that makes you pause for a second.

And because every mug is hand-pressed to order here in Sussex, we can reproduce the colour and detail properly across a wide range of mug styles and sizes.

A Collection That Will Keep Growing

This launch is really just the beginning.

Joel’s portfolio covers an enormous range of subjects and styles, and there’s already a growing list of designs we’d love to add over time.

From seaside scenes and travel-inspired artwork through to architecture, people, abstract colour studies and more automotive-inspired pieces, there’s a huge amount still to explore.

That’s one of the exciting things about collaborations like this — they can evolve naturally rather than feeling static.

Final Thoughts

This collection feels slightly different from anything else we’ve launched so far.

It still fits naturally within Sipfull of Design, but it opens the door to a more artistic side of what mugs can be as everyday objects.

Some are cheerful. Some are moody. Some feel summery and uplifting, while others feel quiet and thoughtful.

And honestly, that mixture is probably what I love most about the range.

We’re hugely excited to finally share it properly.
