Horse people would spot a half-done Ponytrait from the top of the school.

Why horses were next

Pawtrait Mug launched a couple of weeks ago for dogs. The response was immediate — and the second most common reply, after "how quickly can I have one?", was "can you do it for horses?"

How it works

Four steps. Same for every order.

1. Head to the product page. Standard mug personalisation flow — familiar if you've bought from us before.

2. Upload a photo of your horse. Head-on is perfect. Well-lit, no filter, close enough to see the face clearly. Phone photos work brilliantly — the better the source, the better the portrait.

3. Hit generate and wait a minute. Our Ponytrait studio produces three painterly options for you to choose between. Same photo, three interpretations — pick the one that feels most like your horse.

4. Add a name (optional) and check out. Their name printed underneath the portrait, if you'd like. Ready to press the moment your order comes through.

The tooling doesn't care whether it's a 17hh warmblood or a fell pony that came home with your daughter aged twelve. Every horse comes back rendered painterly, warm and specific — not the generic AI-pet-portrait wash you'll have seen elsewhere.

A few of the things it handles beautifully:

• Coat colours and markings. Bays, chestnuts, greys, piebalds, appaloosas. White socks, stars, snips and stripes — kept faithful to your photo.
• Breed shape. The stocky shoulder of a cob, the fine head of an Arab, the compact resolve of a Shetland, the elegant length of a thoroughbred.
• Mane and forelock. Full and flowing, hogged, pulled, plaited — whichever way your horse comes.
• Age. The spirited youngster; the wise old campaigner still nickering at the gate. Both come out beautifully.

Best results come from a good photo

The single biggest thing you can do to get a great Ponytrait: send us a good photo.

• Head-on. Standing quietly, ears forward, looking at the camera. Not turned away, not blurred by movement.
• Well-lit. Outdoors in daylight is ideal. Avoid harsh midday shadows across the face.
• Close enough. Head and shoulders fill at least half the frame. If we can't see the eyes clearly, we can't render them properly.
• Clean background. Ideally no other horses, humans or headcollars in shot — but we can work around most things. Backgrounds get replaced with a painterly wash anyway.

If your photo isn't quite right, we'll tell you before we press anything.
