This is Lilos 2 — a second hand-cut vinyl piece from Joel Clark’s Water Studies series, and another return to the subject that brought together his two greatest artistic influences: David Hockney and Jeff Koons. If the first piece established the concept, this one goes further into it — deeper colour, more complex composition, the inflatables and the water surface pushing the graphic possibilities of hand-cut vinyl to their limit. Hockney showed the world that a swimming pool could be fine art. Koons showed that joy and playfulness were serious artistic intentions. Joel’s vinyl process makes both of those ideas feel completely at home on the same piece of work.

Joel Clark is a British artist working in the unique medium of hand-cut vinyl. He learned the craft at a summer job at Silverstone circuit, spent six years at art college, then 16 years as an advertising creative writing TV and poster campaigns — before finally committing to the work he’d always wanted to make. Every piece begins as a hand-drawn composition; each shape is then intricately cut from coloured vinyl and applied piece by piece, like a jigsaw, to build the final image. The results are vivid and impactful — bold colour, strong composition, and an energy that comes from someone who understands exactly how images communicate. Alongside his collaboration with Sipfull of Design, Joel has created artworks for Lewis Hamilton, Renault F1, Toyota, Silverstone Museum, Porsche, and many others.

Each item is made to order and carefully hand-pressed in our Sussex studio.

Most orders are produced within 24–48 hours, depending on order volume.

Standard delivery: Orders are dispatched using a Royal Mail Tracked 48 service.

Express delivery: Where Express shipping is selected at checkout, orders are dispatched using a Royal Mail Tracked 24 service.

Delivery times refer to courier transit only and do not include production time.
