The idea came from an email.
Someone had been on the site for the best part of an hour, they said, trying to decide between about six mugs — none of them for themselves, all for their sister's fortieth. She loves mugs. She has strong opinions about mugs. And they, the buyer, were increasingly worried they'd pick the wrong one.
“Do you do gift cards?” they asked.
We didn't. But the more we thought about it, the more it seemed an obvious gap. Not every gift needs to be picked for someone. Sometimes the nicest thing you can do is hand over the choosing.
So we've built one properly. Here's what it does.
The Basics
The Sipfull Gift Card is available in £15, £25, £50 and £100, and it's redeemable against anything at sipfullofdesign.com — any mug, any travel mug, any personalised design, at any time.
A few quiet details worth knowing:
- Built into the store, not bolted on. No third-party app. No account needed to redeem.
- The balance carries over. If they spend less than the card's value, the rest stays on the code for next time.
- No expiry. Nothing to remember by a certain date.
Nothing to catch anyone out. Nothing to get lost in a spam folder unless we're the ones sending it.
Two Ways to Give It
At checkout you pick your amount, then choose how to give it.
1. Email it, on a date you choose
Tick the “email as a gift” box, add the recipient's email address, write a personal message, and pick the date it should land. That morning, we'll send them the gift card automatically. Perfect for a birthday you don't want to forget — you can buy it now and let it arrive on the day.
(Small caveat: scheduled sends cap at 90 days ahead, which is Shopify's limit rather than ours. If you're planning further out, buy the card, send it to yourself, and forward it when the day comes.)
2. Print it, for slipping into a card
Leave the box unticked and the gift card lands with you instead. Open the email, hit print, and it comes out as a proper little Sipfull voucher — logo, amount, code, and a scannable QR — ready to fold into a birthday card. Handwritten note optional but encouraged.
How the Recipient Uses It
The gift card carries a unique code. At checkout, they enter it (or scan the QR) and the balance comes off their order.
It works exactly like a discount code, except it's real money on the card. If they spend less, the rest waits patiently for the next visit.
Still Handpressed at Heart
The thing we're most quietly pleased with is that a Sipfull gift card doesn't feel like a voucher.
It's not an anonymous code from a big-box retailer. It's a gift towards something specific — a mug pressed and packed by hand in our small Sussex studio, with a name (or nickname, or family in-joke) lettered on it if the recipient chooses to personalise.
The gift is still the mug. The card just lets them pick which one.
