Introducing British Escapes: A Growing Range of Personalised UK Location Mugs

The first note came in months ago.

Someone had spent a slow morning in Padstow, walked the harbour path, had a pasty on the wall by the boats, and gone home. Later, they'd wanted a mug to keep the trip warm on grey Tuesdays in the office. Went looking. Couldn't find one. Not one that actually looked like Padstow. Not one they'd have wanted to drink out of.

They wrote to us and asked whether we'd ever do one.

Then someone else asked about the Lake District. Then Whitby. Then Snowdonia. Then Edinburgh. Then the North Yorkshire Moors, then the Cotswolds, then a stretch of North Norfolk coast none of us had heard of but sounded lovely.

By spring it wasn't a request. It was a pattern.

So We Started Building

British Escapes is what happened next.

Personalised mugs, one for each place worth remembering. The weekend cottage. The fell walk. The seaside town. The city break that's now a family tradition. The bit of Britain that, when you go there, feels like yours.

125 designs are live now. Heading for around 175 by the end of tomorrow — going all the way from the Isle of Skye in the far north down to the Scilly Isles off the Cornish coast. We've been working our way around the country from Sussex, up through the West Country, along the south coast, across to Wales, and up to Scotland — the last stretch is going up as we type this. If your favourite spot isn't there yet, hold tight.

How the Personalisation Works

Three steps at checkout.

First, pick your place. Most well-known regions and towns have their own mug. Some places have several — the Lake District alone earned five different scenes.

Second, pick the memory. For most locations you'll see a few options: the specific landmark, a wider landscape view, a small detail (a harbour, a signpost, a stretch of coast). Pick the one that matches how you think of the place, rather than how a guidebook does.

Third, add a name if you want to. A name goes above the illustration in a clean handwritten style — yours, someone else's, the family surname that always ends up on the visitor book. Skip it entirely if you'd rather.

A Few Places, to Give You a Feel

Rather than list all 125, a small selection:

• Cornwall — clifftop paths and harbour cottages. Padstow, Fowey, St Ives, and the coastal stretches between.
• The Lake District — the fells above Windermere, Buttermere on a cold morning, the drystone walls that thread through every walk.
• Edinburgh — the castle catching the light, the Royal Mile at dusk, Arthur's Seat looking down.
• The Cotswolds — honey-stone villages, sheep-cropped paddocks, and the specific colour those cottages go at four in the afternoon.
• The Yorkshire Dales — the wide sweep of Wharfedale, dry-stone walls climbing the moor, and a pub sign or two.
• The Peak District — the moors above Edale, the reservoirs, the long views that make the walk worth it.

Plus around a hundred and twenty others. Whitby, York, the Isle of Wight, the Norfolk coast, Snowdonia, Skye, Cambridge, Bath, the Scilly Isles, and a lot of specific villages and stretches of coast we've grown quietly attached to along the way.

A Small, Honest Admission

This range only exists because you told us it should. We didn't set out to research every quiet corner of the UK.

Some of that research has been genuinely enjoyable. There's a slow satisfaction in learning why a particular beach is beloved, or which harbour town has the best pastel-painted cottages, or what the Wharfedale locals point at when they say “up there.” A lot of it, though, has come from Googling — and then trying to render it well.

If you know a place better than we do, we'd genuinely like to hear from you. The specific bit of North Norfolk that makes it feel like North Norfolk. The one lane in a Cotswold village that's the one worth painting. The pub you always end at on the fell walk.

The best designs in this range are the ones we've had proper local input on. Local input is welcome any time.

Once the final stretch is up and the initial set is complete, we're not stopping. The plan has always been that this range grows with your suggestions — the specific villages, the particular views, the memories worth pinning to a mug.
